UPSC Civil Services Examinations

Educational eligibility – UPSC conduct civil services examinations for various posts including IAS, IRS, IFS, and IPS etc. The interested candidates have to be a graduate from any discipline from a recognized university. Appearing candidates in final year can also apply.

Age Limit – The age limit to apply for civil services is from 21 years to 30 years as on 1st August of the year of examination. The upper age is limit relaxed of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Number of attempts – The number of attempts is four for General candidates under the creamy layer, seven attempts for OBC candidates and no limit for SC/ST candidates.

Nationality – The nationality for an IAS and IPS candidates has to be a citizen of India.

  • Stage I (Preliminary Examination)
  • Stage II (Main Examination)
  • Stage III (Personality Interview)

UPSC Engineering Services Examination

Educational eligibility – The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized university or equivalent. M.Sc degree or its equivalent degree.

Age limit – The age limit for engineering services examination is from 21 years to 30 years as on 1st August of the year of the examination. The upper age limit is 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Number of attempts – The number of attempts if 4 for General candidates under creamy layer, 7 for OBC candidates and no limit for SC/ST candidates.

Nationality – A candidate applying for engineering services examination must be a citizen of India.

Examination process

  • Paper I (MCQs) – General Ability Test (Part A-General English) and (part B-General Studies)
  • Papers II and III (MCQs) – CE/ME/EE/Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
  • Paper IV and V (Conventional type) – CE/ME/EE/Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering)
  • Interview – Personality Test

UPSC Combined Defense Services Examination

Educational Criteria – A degree from a recognized university or equivalent for Indian Military Academy/Officers’ Training Academy. B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics or a bachelor of engineering for Naval Academy. A degree from a recognized university with Physics and Mathematics at higher secondary level or bachelor of engineering, bachelor of technology for Air Force Academy.

Age Limit – The age limit for Indian Military Academy is from 19 to 24 years. The age limit for Air Force Academy is from 19 to 23 years. The age limit for Naval Academy is from 19 to 22 years. The age limit for Officers’ Training Academy is from 19 to 25 years (not before 2nd June on the year of examination).

Nationality – A candidate applying for Defense Services examination must be a citizen of India.

  • Written Examination
  • Interview by a Services Selection Board

UPSC National Defense Academy Examination

Educational Criteria – To apply for Indian Army the candidate must have cleared higher secondary in any stream. To apply for Indian Air Force and Indian Navy the candidate must have cleared higher secondary with physics and mathematics.

Age Limit – The age limit for NDA examinations is from 16 and half to 19 years (there is no age relaxation).

Nationality – The candidates applying for NDA examinations must be a citizen of India and girls are not eligible for NDA examinations.

Examination Procedure 

  • Written examination
  • Personal interview by Service Selection Board.

UPSC Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA)

Educational Criteria – The candidates applying for SCRA examinations must have cleared higher secondary examination with physics and mathematics. Appearing candidates with physics and mathematics as a subject can also apply. Graduate candidates with mathematics as a subject are also eligible for this exam.

Age Limit – The age limit for SCRA examination is from 17 years to 21 years (there is no age relaxation).

Nationality – The candidates applying for SCRA examination must be a citizen of India.
